Sophie

Can you tell which one of the toys below belongs to Ajax and which two are for the dog?

Can you spot Sophie?

As a new mom I must walk around with a sign on my back saying “sucker.”  I heard about this toy called “Sophie” and how it’s great for teething babies.  Well all the moms were raving about it saying how it was the best little toy in the world.  Well, of course I thought- Ajax needs a Sophie ASAP!  So, I had Dave get online and order it; it arrives, I’m excited, Dave is skeptical (to say the least) and Ajax, well he doesn’t really seem to care one way or the other.  I gave it to him during dinner and as soon as he threw it to the ground, Max pounced upon it (it even squeaks).  I won’t even tell you what I paid for it. lol.

Laundry and Rain

I had the day off from work today so Ajax and I hung out at home.  It was the perfect day for being home.  It was cold and overcast outside and rained pretty much all day. . . I had planned on going grocery shopping, but we never left the house.   Grandpa Rod and Grandma Dara sent home some veggies from their garden, so I took the day to turn some of it into baby food as Ajax loves squash.   I’m also proud to say that I did laundry and clipped coupons (I even organized them in a little binder, but the trick will be for me to actually remember and use them at the store); Watch out Martha!   Overall, Ajax and I had a great day.  He seems to be quite the pro now at rolling from his tummy to his back, and sits up as long as he wants to.  He still thinks its funny to just sort of fall back when he’s done sitting up and can’t figure out why we keep propping him back up.

This is normally a Dad game, but I thought why can't Moms give laundry basket rides too? Ajax didn't seem to mind, but Max was a little annoyed.

Sinks and Church

This weekend we headed up north to Mikado to visit Dave’s family.  We got there around 10:30 pm on Friday (Ajax slept the whole way up) and put the little guy right to bed and he was out all night long.   He actually slept better up north than he has been at home… go figure?   We also brought Max up so that he would have the opportunity to run around in the woods.  Unfortunately, I think this will be his last trip up north as he’s not really doing so well.   On Saturday we did the rounds up north and visited with Dave’s grandma Indish and aunts/uncles/cousin.   On Sunday my mother in law, Dara, and Dave’s grandma Dingeldein took Ajax to Church, while Dave and I stayed home and bummed around.  They said he did very good and only fell asleep once!  Not bad for his first time in church.  We had a great time seeing everyone.

Zombie Walk

I know- two posts, one night, crazy.  But we’ll be out of town this weekend, so thought I’d hit ya with as much Indish family fun as you could handle.   As I’m sure most of you know Mr. Dave is obsessed with zombies and yes, I have an unnatural fear of the undead.  That being said, last year my husband dragged me to a Zombie walk in Ferndale.  I invited friends, who ever so politely declined the invite for more sophisticated endeavors.  Well, it’s almost that time again for this years walk and Dave is super pumped to bring Ajax.  We may even dress him up as a baby zombie… in his stroller.

Girls

This morning I dropped Ajax off at Dave’s cousins house.  His cousin’s wife usually watches Ajax once a week, however, this week and next she has him for two days.    Anywho, they have two little girls and then she also babysits her niece.  Ajax is the only little dude in a house full of girls.  As soon as I brought him in the house all three girls descended on him to get a closer look.  Kristy said he’s now getting used to having the girls hover over him (as they are “helping” watch him, lol).  I bet he’s getting used to the attention- welcome to the rest of your life kiddo.

Shirts and Eating

Today I gave up on a bib as the kid insists on trying to pull them off during meal time.

I’ve also been looking at getting a convertible car seat for Ajax as he has about outgrown his infant car seat.   For some reason I thought babies were in these infant car seats for like a year or something.

Dave is just getting over bronchitis, so we’re keeping a close eye on Ajax to be sure he doesn’t come down with anything.   So far so good.   We still plan on heading up north this weekend, so long as Dave is up for it (because my role on that 4 hr drive is to keep Ajax happy and then fall asleep).

Babysitting

My aunt Terri is currently in England visiting my cousin and her family, so other friends and family members have been babysitting for us.  On Monday a family friend, Bev, babysat and today my dad was over.  Good times were had all around and we so appreciate the help!   Tonight Ajax rolled over twice, stomach to back, and seemed quite pleased with himself.  We tried going for a third time, but he refused.   This is the first time he has rolled over in almost two months.

My friend Heather is the coupon guru and after much pressuring she finally started a blog to tell people like me how to save money (http://www.spectacularsavings.blogspot.com/).  Well I did exactly what she told me and walked out of Rite Aid with- Huggies mega pack of diapers ($17.99), Huggies baby wipes ($3.49), and face wash ($5.49).  After using my coupons, I only paid $14.74, out of pocket!  I felt like such a winner.

Falls almost here

It seems I am perpetually going through Ajax’s clothes.   Per usual Michigan weather we’ve been having days in the 80s followed by days in the high 60s, needless to say all Michiganders have sinus headaches.  I started pulling out 9-12 month stuff for the kid, as he certainly needs warmer clothes now.

This weekend we went out to my parents house to visit.  My mom, sister, Ajax, and I went shopping (where the kid had a complete meltdown).  The goal was to get my mom some suits and clothes for work, but the only people who ended up with stuff was Ajax and one shirt for my sister.   As neither Dave, nor my dad, wanted anything to do with the mall, they went fishing.   Good times!   Next weekend we’re headed up north to visit Dave’s family in Mikado.  This is a great time of year to head up north as all the leaves are starting to change.

Food

My child loves to eat.  I mean loves to eat.  He will grip each side of his high chair and lunge toward the spoon full of mush with his mouth wide open (sometimes while yelling angrily).    It’s like you can’t shovel it in fast enough.   He has now mastered- green beans, peas, sweat potatoes, squash, apples, bananas, pears.  I also tried giving him a little avocado today, but he wasn’t interested.  While Dave and I ate dinner tonight, we put Ajax in his booster seat at the table with us and then I gave him 1/2 a banana to play with.  He seemed very intent on that banana, and because it got slick, he spent a good deal of dinner chasing it around his tray.

Today at the grocery store I had an elderly woman approach me and comment that Ajax was the tiniest baby she had ever seen.  Now I’ve received a few compliments on my kid, but I’ve never had anyone tell me he’s tiny before.

Flying Grandma

Tonight my mother in law stopped in (as she had a lay over in Detroit on her way home from Texas).  Dave picked her up at the airport and she was able to come over and play with Ajax and have dinner with us before being zipped back to the airport.  We haven’t seen her since July and it was wonderful having her over.  As a nurse, I was also to able to ask her some questions about the kid and his recent odd behavior (I called his pedi today and the office was no help).  Dave actually pointed out that Ajax started waking up in the night just before my birthday (which was the 31st of Aug) for some reason I hadn’t realized it had been going on that long.  I’m not sure if he’s just realized that if he does a hysterical cry I come running, or if the teething hurts him and wakes him in the night so that he can’t fall back asleep.  Tough tough questions, no answers.
