Toast

We tried giving Ajax some toast.  Word on the street is that the rough surface will help ease the discomfort of teething.  Ajax, however, didn’t really seem to know what to do with the toast.  He kind of licked it and then threw it.   It’s odd, he’ll put every other thing he comes across right into his mouth, but give him something edible and he’s suddenly suspicious.

Yea toast.
Yea toast.
Honestly, he was so weary of this piece of toast.

Baby Food

I had grand dreams of making my own baby food.  But then I went back to work and realized I didn’t have the time or the energy.  Today, however, I did make my own baby puree of apples and bananas.  Though this is a novice recipe, I don’t care.  I mainly plan on giving Ajax premade baby food, but if I have the time and the stuffs I might as well blend it up.  I also need to justify the purchase of the Magic Bullet, which I demanded Dave buy for me (with the conditions that I would make 1) baby food; and 2) smoothies whenever he wanted.  Though it turns out I am honestly the world’s worst smoothie maker).

Developing

After speaking with my cousin I have decided that Ajax is ready to start on solids three times a day.  This will be quite the change for the little guy, however, I think he is more than ready.  He loves his solid food and I wanted to start offering it to him for breakfast and lunch, as we currently just do dinner.  He’s able to sit up unassisted for longer periods, but he’s not completely stable.  He’s still teething and its been waking him up at night.   Overall though Ajax is doing well.  Dave had a very nice weekend with his friend.  I tried to make dinner for us all last night, but completely ruined it (so we all ate ice cream cake, left over chicken tacos, and cheap pizzas).  Good times!

Almost 30

Today Mr. Dave turned 29!  What a big day.  I can’t believe we’re almost 30.   I’m not really someone who clings to numbers (though in my mind I really see myself in my early to mid 20s, those were just good years.. 23, 24..) but 30 now that’s impressive!  When Ajax is 10 I’ll be 38, that’s just crazy to think about.   I picked up an ice cream cake on my way home for Dave’s birthday and my mom bought him chicken and ravioli, one of his favorite dinners.   His buddy Jamie, who he hasn’t seen in years, is visiting from VA (they are currently playing video games) and they have a little zombie project they are working on, so when that’s done I’ll post it, should be interesting.

Ajax has now mastered green beans and apples.  He’s quite the eater.  He’s also started playing peak-a-boo with my aunt, but he hasn’t shown me his new skill.  He’s still refusing to sit up for longer than a few seconds and now looks terrified of rolling over.  When he’s on his tummy if he leans too far, to the point where he may roll over, he panics and grips the ground to save his life.

I got Ajax this neat wood toy. However, I didn't take into account the fact that it's kind of heavy and he's not that coordinated. He's hit himself in the face with it a few times to the point where I've had to put it away.

Umm Umm Good

Here is a little video of Ajax eating.  While feeding him, Dave said I say- umm umm!  So now Ajax seems to be repeating that.  Little dude.

Gag

I like to say that my baby is the smartest little guy around; however, at times I am a little concerned.  For example, when Ajax repeatedly sticks his fingers down his throat causing his gag reflex to kick in, I wonder… after the 7th time wouldn’t you stop doing that?  Ah, oh well. I hear that’s normal.  We tried squash tonight and it was a success.  This guy is not picky and I’m surprised at how much he eats.  I was going to post some pictures from our trip to Greenfield Village, but when we got home we realized that the memory card wasn’t in the camera.  I’d taken it out and forgot to put it back in.

Labor Day

I think Ajax may be on the verge of another development.  For the past few nights he’s been waking up; last night he had a complete melt down around 1 am.  Dave and I thought something was actually wrong with him and Dave insisted I take his temperature (he’s fine).  Maybe he’ll remember that he can roll over (at 5 months now, he’s only done it twice), we shall see.   Or maybe he”ll remember that he can say “ma”, right now he only uses ma as a prefix for some reason when he gets mad.  It actually sounds like baby swearing.  He’ll say- ma-ba! ma-da!  and get so frustrated.  Oh well, his favorite word right now is da da da.

I introduced Ajax to sweet potatoes and he liked them.  Yea on the veggie front.  We’ve had a pretty easy holiday weekend.  We went to Greenfield Village and walked around, did some running, today I was hoping to go to an art fair/street festival, but it’s supposed to rain.  Guess we’ll have to see how the weather pans out before heading out.

Ajax loves his exersuacer. He's coordinated enough now that he spins himself around because he can't decide which toy to play with.

Bananas2

Just thought I’d post some pics of Ajax eating.  These were taken tonight as Mr. Dave fed Ajax his rice and bananas.  Tomorrow I’m going to try a veggie.

Bananas

So we all know Ajax is not a fan of the rice cereal, as my mother in law put it- the stuff tastes like paste, try it!  Though I have not yet tried it, it does look like paste.   To try and entice little man to eat this horrid stuff I decided to add bananas to the mix.  Now, my baby food meal planner specifically says not to start with fruit but to try a veggie first.  I would like to point out that I did try to puree steamed broccoli, but Ajax just gagged on it.  So I had bananas on hand and that is what I used.  Ajax thought this was just the best thing ever, he ate almost the whole portion and thus far no adverse reactions.  We are certainly on the path to solids.
