Ajax will be 8 months this week (on the 3rd), I really cannot believe it. I figured I should start introducing him to different textures and get him accustomed to finger foods. As it is he’s not really into feeding himself and makes a horrible face if something isn’t a smooth puree. So some things we have tried- banana pieces, apple slices, jello, toasted bagels, teething biscuits, and apple puffs (little baby rice puffs that melt in your mouth). It’s funny, for his puffs he’ll open his mouth but won’t actually feed himself yet. Oh well, he’ll get used to it. Oh we’ve also given him a few peas, which he played with.
One tiny tiny complaint my husband has about the holidays with my family is the fact that we are incredibly loud. For some reason we cannot speak to each other without yelling; and all within about 3 feet of one another. I think it has something to do with the fact that we cannot control the volume of our voices. That’s maybe why Ajax screams all the time… I don’t know.
The point is my son seems to love attention and being loud. We had a birthday party on Saturday for a cousin (Gavin who turned 1) and Ajax was such a ham every time the camera came around, while the other kids cried and shied away from the photographer, Ajax beamed and yelled, ha! (Unfortunately I forgot my camera so I don’t have pics of the get-together). Ajax has also been working on the bas, was, and las, so his vocabulary is certainly expanding. Today was an easy Sunday, we went visiting over my Grandpa Naders and then home. Ajax is now getting around by rolling everyplace and so wants to crawl. Very soon we will have a mobile child.
Just one more update. Ajax is now all over the place and giving him a bath in his little tub is now almost impossible. He will grab hold of the edge of his little tub and pull himself into a squatting position and then try and launch himself over the edge. He finds this to be great fun, but makes bathtime incredibly difficult. Tonight we tried something different. I bought a little anti-slip mat for the tub and Dave and I gave him a bath in the full tub. Ajax thought this was the best thing ever. He splashed and kicked and kept flopping on his tummy to grab at the water. It wasn’t a very long bath as my back couldn’t take to much of leaning over like that. But overall, great time!
Well Turkey day this year was a hit! I ate too much and am still recovering. Dave, Ajax, and I headed out to my parents house early yesterday to help get ready for dinner. There were quite a few friends and family over my parents’ house for Thanksgiving and it was great seeing everyone. We stayed the night at my parents’ and then Emily and I got up early and went shopping. We hit up three stores and I was able to get everything I wanted. We didn’t hit the road super early, but we got to the first store a little before 8 am and by then the craziness of the crowds had simmered a bit so it wasn’t too bad.
Ajax has a second little tooth coming through. He is therefore feeling a lot less grumpy and over all seems much happier! Ajax also had his first newspaper interview, well ok, it was really my Aunt who was interviewed by the local newspaper regarding her baby class, but the reporter showed up late so the only baby there was Ajax. By extension Ajax had lots of photos taken and the article may be in the weekend news. If it is, I’ll post the article. How wonderful.
Although Ajax has not yet pulled himself up on anything, we went ahead and lowered his crib (oh my little guy!). We were a little worried that he would have trouble sleeping, but he doesn’t seem to mind the height difference in the least. Ajax was a little grumpy this weekend as he had a bit of a cold (I guess it’s just the season). So our house smells like Vicks as I got the little strips that plug into the humidifier and then we just kept moving it around the house with us. Oh well what are you going to do?
We had friends over for dinner on Saturday; they brought Chicken and Ravioli, our favorite meal (thank you!). We did a little running on Saturday, not much, and Sunday we just hung out at home. Though I did have to go Kroger to pick up groceries for Thanksgiving. Overall, another quiet weekend.
I’m not sure if this is odd or not, but Ajax will only roll in one direction. What I mean is, when he rolls form his stomach to his back he always rolls to the left. Lately when he’s been rolling to his back he’ll immediately start clapping and looking around to make sure you notice he’s clapping. His clapping however, is a bit off as he’ll hit the back of one hand with the palm of his other hand, it’s pretty funny to watch.
I’m so very sorry for the lack of updates recently! Dara was down visiting, Dave was out of town, runnin’ around, laundry, cleaning, oh you get the picture.
Ajax rolled over from his back to his tummy this weekend. He was so proud of himself. He snatched the toy that was his motivation and then promptly flipped over to his back again. Ajax also has a case of the squigglies (not sure if that’s a word), but this child is constantly in motion. You have to be extra careful while holding him because he’ll suddenly lunge to the side to grab the light switch, or you’ll be sitting on the couch with him and he’ll flip head first off the couch to explore the floor (a few close calls, no accidents yet). We also need to lower his mattress as it will not be long now before he is crawling and pulling himself up.
We had friends over for dinner last night, and Ajax screamed throughout the entire meal. It seemed like every time someone tried to speak, he would begin yelling over top of them (as if to say, pay attention to me!).
Dara- thank you very much for coming down last week and babysitting, we loved having you!
Ajax is attracted to shiny objects- rings, watches, earrings, he will take his pointer finger and thumb and try to pinch the shiny object. He then inevitably tries to get the object into his mouth. He certainly wants to get everything into his mouth, however, now that he has the little tooth it makes it a little more dangerous for him. For example, my mother in law today said that Ajax got his toe into his mouth and promptly bit down, which obviously hurt, making him cry.
My mother in law came down on Tues. night and is staying through Sat., she’s been watching Ajax and they have been having a great time. She also brought down H1N1 vaccines for Dave and I, so watch out swine!
For the first time in a long time, I am home alone. Well, not totally alone, Ajax is here of course. Mr. Dave is in Grand Rapids tonight to see a Metallica concert with his friend, Andy, and will be home tomorrow. I must admit it’s pretty weird. I’ve never been in this house by myself without Max and it’s been a long time since Dave has been away from the house overnight. While I am a little nervous (I mean honestly who would protect me from the zeds should they attack?), I have coped by turning on every light in the house, a beacon of light in Garden City, and turning on the TV in the living room for extra noise. After putting Ajax to bed I made my favorite dinner- eggs, tomatoes, and rice; and watched Entertainment Tonight, while reading coupon blogs on the internet. Awesome.
