Pizza

Well, we’ve created a pizza monster.  Ajax’s absolute favorite food right now is pizza.  If he sees a commercial for his fav food he starts shouting- pizza pizza pizza!  If we happen to order pizza and he sees the delivery guy he races out onto the porch and demands pizza immediately.  You can barely contain him to squish him into his highchair to give him a piece.   I’m not quite sure where this love developed, it’s not like we have pizza every other day, but there it is and it’s pretty funny.

Having an afternoon snack.
Ajax is really starting to climb on things now.

Weekend fun

This weekend has been pretty quiet after the holiday.  Yesterday Ajax and I went for a playdate over my friend Mari’s house, where Ajax played very well with her two year old, Riley.  Mari also has twin 3 month old girls, so adorable!  Unfortunately I have no pictures to share, but they were so cute.

Today has been very relaxing, though this morning on my way home from the grocery store I managed to run over a sharp piece of metal in Dave’s car and we had to put on the spare as the tire is beyond a mere patch.  Oddly enough we couldn’t find a tire shop open on Sunday.  Don’t these places realize that people can get flat tires any day of the week?

We’ve kind of been stuck in the house today as it’s pretty chilly outside.  To keep Ajax entertained we’ve been reading books and playing with Legos (truly his favorite toy of the moment).  We also let Ajax try his hand at fingerpainting again, and he did very well.  Overall, a very relaxing weekend.

Baby Mozart

Ajax has been all about music lately.  He has a drum that plays songs and he’ll carry it all over the house so he can dance to the music.  Of course I’m biased, but I think he’s musically inclined!  Here’s a short clip of him playing the key board with my dad.

Thanksgiving 2010

Well Thanksgiving this year was a hit!  What a wonderful, food filled holiday of thanks.

On Thursday morning Dave, Ajax and I headed out to my parent’s home in Brooklyn.  Ajax was so excited to go for a ride and kept running around the house while Dave and I tried to load up the car.   He’s really into going places now and of course his favorite places all involve grandparents.  I’ve certainly noticed that when Dave’s parents or my parent’s are around, Ajax suddenly forgets we’re even present and all that matters are his Grandparents.   How’s that for thanks?

We were the first ones at my folks, which gave Ajax plenty of time to run around and check everything out.  When my mom and Ajax were watching the horses, however, my mom noticed one of them trying to scoot under the fence to get at the green grass.  My mom, yelled – bad horse, bad!  So now Ajax has been going around saying- bad horsie, bad horsie.   He has even gotten a little creative saying bad daddy, bad mommy, etc.

There were a few people out for dinner- my aunt Liz and uncle Tom, their sons, Michael and Ryan; my grandpa V; and some good family friends.   Ajax had a blast running around, ate way too much bread, and even played pool with his older cousins.  We were able to Skype with Emily a bit in Alaska till a large snow storm blew out her internet.

Ajax also found great fun chasing the dog around and around the kitchen table.  Unfortunately it took the dog a long while to realize this was a game.   Ajax is used to Millie up north and playing chase, my parent’s dog, however, found this game a bit beneath her, but obliged nonetheless.

After everyone left and Ajax was in bed, Dave treated me to a late night movie- Harry Potter.  We got out of the movie at midnight and there were already people lined up at the Best Buy, I couldn’t believe it (it was so cold with freezing rain).

Today, Black Friday, my mom and I ended up rolling into some stores at about 11 am (we’re obviously not the hard core shoppers here).  And though we missed all the door buster sales, we each still found a few goodies.

Overall, an excellent Thanksgiving.

Ymm turkey!
Good times!
Ajax finished dinner early and then played with his Legos, his now fav toy.
Playing pool with his cousins.
How cute.

Pot pies

Sunday night Dave requested homemade chicken pot pie for dinner.  The weather is getting cold and they are predicting snow by Wednesday, so yes, a comfy meal was certainly in order.   I made pot pie and a salad, with a helper.   Ajax loves to help make salad and then he actually ate the salad!   He had a small serving, along with sweet potatoes, peas, and a few bites of chicken.  Dave’s contribution to dinner was mashed potatoes with bacon and horseradish.   What a feast!

From Allrecipes.com here’s the greatest recipe you should try –

Ingredients

  • 1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breast halves – cubed
  • 1 cup sliced carrots
  • 1 cup frozen green peas
  • 1/2 cup sliced celery
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1 3/4 cups chicken broth (add an extra 1/4 C)
  • 2/3 cup milk (add an extra 1/4 C)
  • 2 (9 inch) unbaked pie crusts

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. In a saucepan, combine chicken, carrots, peas, and celery. Add broth (or stock) to cover and boil for 15 minutes. Remove from heat, drain and set aside.
  3. In the saucepan over medium heat, cook onions in butter until soft and translucent. Stir in flour, salt, pepper, and celery seed (I didn’t have celery seed, so I used paprika, garlic and ground mustard).  Slowly stir in chicken broth and milk. Simmer over medium-low heat until thick (note- stir constantly while it’s thickening).   Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Place bottom layer of crust into pan and bake for about 6 minutes.
  5. Place the chicken mixture in bottom pie crust. Pour hot liquid mixture over. Cover with top crust, seal edges, and cut away excess dough. Make several small slits in the top to allow steam to escape.  Brush pie crust with beaten egg white.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until pastry is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Cool for 10 minutes before serving.
ta da!
I seriously recommend this recipe.
Flowers.

Dave bought me flowers.   How wonderful is that?   What a great husband.  I made sure to point out to Ajax that women love flowers.

Weekend fun

The weekend has come and gone so fast.  But Thursday is turkey day and that means a short week with a happy day filled with excellent food and football.  Ok, so I don’t really care about football, but tradition dictates it dominate the TV.

Ajax helped me prep a few dishes for turkey day on Saturday and we did a bit of running around.  Ajax is getting more coordinated with his Legos and loves to build towers.  He has also begun using a real cup for meals.   He thinks it’s so cool.   With this whole cup situation he has also been demanding apple juice.  I used to offer Ajax juice when he was younger, but he never seemed to like it, so I stopped trying.   At 19 months, however, he is a big boy and calls for juice.

Today we went visiting over my grandpa Nader’s and Ajax had a blast.  Somehow he ended up being the youngest nino present and loved all the attention.  What a little ham.

Serious construction going on here.

Sick Nino

Ajax has been a bit under the weather, at first we chalked it up to teething, but now he’s a bit congested and yesterday he took a 4.5 hour nap at the sitters.  So today, I ended up staying home with the sick nino.  He wasn’t the most pleasant to be around, but I think he needed some mommy time.

We bummed around the house and watched plenty of Sesame Street.   I’m still annoyed that PBS changed the beat to the Sesame street theme song (Dave did point out that it has been 25 years since we watched the show and surely some things were bound to change over such time).

Watching Elmo with his sippy.
Life is tough for such a little guy.
Play doh.

Weekends and Legos

We’ve had a pretty quiet weekend.   The weather keeps going from warm to cool, with a day of flurries thrown in, such pleasant Michigan weather.  Ajax has one more tooth coming in and then I do believe he will have a near full set of teeth!  He’s handling this round of teething very well and seems to have resumed his normal sleep pattern.

Yesterday we went to a birthday party for Dave’s cousin’s little girl.  It was much fun and Ajax had a blast running around and playing with the other kids.   He’s getting much better playing with other children and seems to be outgrowing his hitting phase, thank goodness.

Today we ran to Meijer and Dave bought Ajax some Duplo Legos.  Dave has been waiting for this since we found out we were having a boy (really, he has).   As soon as we got home, Ajax and Dave sat in the living room and played with their new toys.  After a while though Ajax thought it more fun to put all the Legos into the bucket and then dump them out all over the floor, than pick them up and then dump them out again.  He did this a dozen times and thought it was the best toy ever.

Up North and Doing Great

Ajax is doing great up north.  Dave and I spoke to him before bath time tonight.   Apparently, he did great at Church (although Dara did report that he threw cheerios into the Holy water), chased the dogs endlessly around the coffee table, went for numerous tractor rides, and then had dinner over great-grandma’s house.  Dara and Rod said he was doing great and having tons of fun.

Dave and I, though we miss the little guy terribly, are doing ok.  I must admit that I was pretty restless today without him and cleaned the house from top to bottom.  I also did my coupons, went shopping, and did the laundry.  I definitely miss the nino, but am glad that he’s having quality time with the grandparents.

Rite Aid

I ran to Rite Aid today and here’s what I snagged –

Transaction 1

  • Nivea Men’s bodywash – $3.99 x 2 = $7.98
  • Sally Hansen face bleach = $5.49
  • Right Guard deodorant = $2.99
  • Lady Speed stick deodorant = $1.99
  • Crest toothpaste = $2.99
  • TOTAL = $21.44
  • After coupons I paid $8.25 (with tax) and received $4.99 back in UP rewards –> so, $3.26 for the items below.  Not bad considering I needed one item… can you guess which item?
