Today Ajax turned two years old, my little guy is growing up. We celebrated Ajax’s birthday weekend in style with family.
On Friday, Rod and Dara drove down from Mikado and Theresa flew in from North Carolina. On Saturday, we took a trip to Ikea, which Ajax loved. He was very well behaved and enjoyed jumping on all the display beds. When we got home Dara and Theresa did a little shopping and Ajax and I baked his birthday cake. I found a recipe for a Chocolate coconut cake in the December issue of Family Circle that I had been wanting to try and this seemed like the perfect occasion. Ajax was a great helper and I even let him lick the spoon after we made the frosting. Yep, we even made our own frosting (everyone said the cake was very good, which made me proud as this was my first attempt at a cake from scratch).
On Sunday, Lisa and her boyfriend, Brian, came over as well as my parents, for Ajax’s birthday. Last year we splurged on a big party so this year we decided to keep it small and manageable and in line with our overall budget. Ajax had a great birthday. We had some wonderful food- Dara and Ajax also made mini loaves of french bread for dinner and they were great.
Ajax got some pretty neat gifts. He got a garbage truck, a train set, some camouflage rain boots, a zhu zhu pet and airplane, and a tricycle. Overall, I think he made out pretty good for a nino. He also received a power wheel from Mary and Jeff; he thought it was the best thing ever and what we learned is that such toys do not belong in the h0use. The weather was so cold and rainy outside, however, that we let him run amoke a tiny bit in the house as it was his birthday.
Ajax actually got a little embarrassed when everyone started singing “happy birthday.” He smiled shyly and kept looking down, it was so cute. And then he was able to blow out the candle on his own!
