Well, I assumed that Ajax would be a vegetarian till he had some more teeth, but when I was at the grocery store today they had some organic baby food with meat that actually didn’t sound terrible. I picked him up a few different kinds and for dinner he had chicken with tomatoes and some sort of pasta. He loved it and Dave and I were both surprised. Go figure?
We also got a few boxes from Amazon today (that’s how we did a lot of our shopping this year. So much easier). Ajax loved the boxes and had a ton of fun playing in them; he didn’t even seem to notice the toys that were coming out of them.
Ajax has now decided that, although he isn’t into finger foods, he wants to spoon feed himself. This of course makes a terrible terrible mess. He will grab the spoon from you and then turn it sides ways while cramming it into his mouth. He discovered that when his hands are covered in baby food, they make a fantastic squishy sound when he makes a fist. That is now our mealtime, lol.
Today Ajax met Santa Claus! There were no tears and no screaming, overall a successful encounter! Ajax seemed most interested in Santa’s white gloves and the lights on all the Christmas trees in the “snowy village.” We met my mom at the mall in Ann Arbor to get photos with Santa, and then my mom was nice enough to watch Ajax for an hour while Dave and I ran around doing some Christmas shopping.
Like I’ve said, we are now making an effort to get Ajax more accustomed to finger foods and feeding himself. As it is, he really has no interest in feeding himself, unless it’s some form of fruit; veggies are out of the question. Tonight I gave him soft green beans, peas, and carrots. All of which ended up on the floor. I also gave him a strawberry and that kept him occupied for a good ten minutes while Dave and I ate dinner. We shall keep trying!
Ajax will be 8 months this week (on the 3rd), I really cannot believe it. I figured I should start introducing him to different textures and get him accustomed to finger foods. As it is he’s not really into feeding himself and makes a horrible face if something isn’t a smooth puree. So some things we have tried- banana pieces, apple slices, jello, toasted bagels, teething biscuits, and apple puffs (little baby rice puffs that melt in your mouth). It’s funny, for his puffs he’ll open his mouth but won’t actually feed himself yet. Oh well, he’ll get used to it. Oh we’ve also given him a few peas, which he played with.
One tiny tiny complaint my husband has about the holidays with my family is the fact that we are incredibly loud. For some reason we cannot speak to each other without yelling; and all within about 3 feet of one another. I think it has something to do with the fact that we cannot control the volume of our voices. That’s maybe why Ajax screams all the time… I don’t know.
The point is my son seems to love attention and being loud. We had a birthday party on Saturday for a cousin (Gavin who turned 1) and Ajax was such a ham every time the camera came around, while the other kids cried and shied away from the photographer, Ajax beamed and yelled, ha! (Unfortunately I forgot my camera so I don’t have pics of the get-together). Ajax has also been working on the bas, was, and las, so his vocabulary is certainly expanding. Today was an easy Sunday, we went visiting over my Grandpa Naders and then home. Ajax is now getting around by rolling everyplace and so wants to crawl. Very soon we will have a mobile child.
Just one more update. Ajax is now all over the place and giving him a bath in his little tub is now almost impossible. He will grab hold of the edge of his little tub and pull himself into a squatting position and then try and launch himself over the edge. He finds this to be great fun, but makes bathtime incredibly difficult. Tonight we tried something different. I bought a little anti-slip mat for the tub and Dave and I gave him a bath in the full tub. Ajax thought this was the best thing ever. He splashed and kicked and kept flopping on his tummy to grab at the water. It wasn’t a very long bath as my back couldn’t take to much of leaning over like that. But overall, great time!
Well Turkey day this year was a hit! I ate too much and am still recovering. Dave, Ajax, and I headed out to my parents house early yesterday to help get ready for dinner. There were quite a few friends and family over my parents’ house for Thanksgiving and it was great seeing everyone. We stayed the night at my parents’ and then Emily and I got up early and went shopping. We hit up three stores and I was able to get everything I wanted. We didn’t hit the road super early, but we got to the first store a little before 8 am and by then the craziness of the crowds had simmered a bit so it wasn’t too bad.
Ajax has a second little tooth coming through. He is therefore feeling a lot less grumpy and over all seems much happier! Ajax also had his first newspaper interview, well ok, it was really my Aunt who was interviewed by the local newspaper regarding her baby class, but the reporter showed up late so the only baby there was Ajax. By extension Ajax had lots of photos taken and the article may be in the weekend news. If it is, I’ll post the article. How wonderful.
Although Ajax has not yet pulled himself up on anything, we went ahead and lowered his crib (oh my little guy!). We were a little worried that he would have trouble sleeping, but he doesn’t seem to mind the height difference in the least. Ajax was a little grumpy this weekend as he had a bit of a cold (I guess it’s just the season). So our house smells like Vicks as I got the little strips that plug into the humidifier and then we just kept moving it around the house with us. Oh well what are you going to do?
We had friends over for dinner on Saturday; they brought Chicken and Ravioli, our favorite meal (thank you!). We did a little running on Saturday, not much, and Sunday we just hung out at home. Though I did have to go Kroger to pick up groceries for Thanksgiving. Overall, another quiet weekend.
