Well, I had another day home with Ajax today, which was wonderful. He was in quite the good mood, which of course always makes a day go easier. My dad was in town doing deliveries so he swung by and took us out to breakfast. He let Ajax pick the restaurant, so of course we went to McDonalds with a playscape. Ajax was actually brave enough to go to the very to rung of the playscape and was so proud of himself. Usually he keeps to the lower levels and slides, but he must have felt adventurous today.
After McDonalds my dad brought us back home and Ajax took a wonderful 2 hour nap. After nap we went to the library and then home to make dinner! Overall, a great day.
We also played a bit outside and afterwards I made Ajax hot chocolate with marshmallows. When he ate them all he asked for some more. I said, you can have two more. He then negotiated for three more. lol.
I had the day off today so that meant Ajax and I have gotten to hang around the house, which is nice as it keeps snowing on and off and the drive into work would have been a hassle. We did run to the grocery store, but other than that we’ve been housebound and lovin’ it. We’ve had multiple adventures with Ajax’s trucks and tractors, who always seem to narrowly escape the monsters and dinosaurs that somehow find their way into our home. And now the nino is down for a nap, I’m hoping it’ll be nice and long so I can lay on the couch and watch TV, lol.
We did make sugar cookies earlier, which was a lot of fun and a complete mess. It took Ajax a while but toward the end he was getting pretty good at using cookie cutters. He kept calling the stocking a foot though and the gingerbread man a guy. I guess, technically he was correct.
Today when I went to pick up Ajax from the babysitters he was in the living room dancing with the sitter clapping. He was doing the chicken dance she explained. She then said, yes, just like the chickens at grandpas. I asked her, what chickens at grandpas? She said, don’t your parents or Dave’s have chickens? I said, no… horses, dogs, cats, no chickens. Well then, I guess they don’t have cows or pigs either? I couldn’t stop laughing. Apparently Ajax was telling tall tales today about all the various animals at his grandparents. The sitter then asked, I guess you guys aren’t getting a dog either? I said, no way! I couldn’t believe his imagination. lol.
So, I apologize, I know it’s been a week with no updates, but I’ve been a bit under the weather and have not had the energy to post.
We had what seemed like a busy week, though I now can’t remember anything we did, lol. My parents took Ajax to their house on Friday and had him until Sunday. Dave and I were supposed to get some small constructions projects done, but I basically laid on the couch and I’m not sure what Dave did. Though we did get out and purchased a Toro snow blower, so yea!
Today we met my dad half way to pick up Ajax and I was able to transfer the sleeping nino from his car to ours without disturbing him. We we got home, however, and he actually woke up he freaked out as he didn’t remember the transfer and wasn’t really sure where he was. He had to sit on the couch with Dave and watch the Gruffalo before he would calm down. My parents said he did absolutely wonderful and had a great weekend, but I missed him a lot and am glad that he’s home.
It was a rainy, gloomy day today, and that lent itself to a quiet day at home, which was very enjoyable for everyone. I ventured out once to the grocery store, but that was about it. While I was out shopping I found Ajax an apron that says- “Mom’s little helper”- I was so excited and couldn’t wait to have him try it on. At first he wasn’t thrilled about it, till I started cooking and put my apron on, then he reconsidered and happily put it on.
Ajax was also feeling creative and was building playdoh. He kept saying, mom take a picture of this! He was very impressed with himself and kept saying, looking at my colors! Meaning he took all four colors and squished them together into one giant masterpiece.
At dinner tonight I asked Ajax if he wanted to try some Muenster cheese, he of course heard cheese and said yes. As soon as he tried he said, yum, that’s good Monster cheese! He then requested several more pieces of monster cheese throughout the course of dinner. lol.
Tonight when I was doing the dishes I was listening to Dave giving Ajax a bath. They were laughing and playing and having a very good time. About twenty minutes later, however, I heard the nighttime routine of trying to talk Ajax out of the bathtub. Sometimes we’re successful at talking him out of the tub, other times we’re simply lifting a wet and squirmy child out of cold bathwater. Who wants to sit in a cold bath? Well, apparently a two year old doesn’t mind.
Dave then came out of the bathroom and went searching for a diaper and PJs, with a naked Ajax right behind. “Woman!” Dave shouted, “where’s the diapers?” (this is a running joke between us). Dave then rounded the corner into the living room, with of course, Ajax on his heels shouting- “Woman! Where’s my diaper? Woman!” Dave and I couldn’t stop laughing, though I guess in hindsight maybe we shouldn’t have? Oh well, it was pretty funny.
The other night at dinner we were joking around. For some reason I now can’t remember what we were discussing. But Ajax is getting old enough where he will actually add in his thoughts/ideas to our conversation and we always find it so interesting and enjoyable when he contributes. Anyways, Dave and Ajax began joking, and Dave said, every time you whine I’m going to take away one of your Christmas presents. Ajax immediately protested, saying Hey, Dad! We couldn’t believe that Ajax put that together that quickly. It was hilarious. Of course, he’s such a quick kid that I’m not sure why it surprised us, but it.
Friday afternoon my dad came in and picked Ajax and I up! My mom is in Florida visiting and Dave was going to be in a conference all day on Saturday in Detroit, so we decided to go stay the night in Brooklyn and hang with my dad.
After my dad picked us up we went to a tractor supply store so that my dad could get some parts for his New Holland. We were there for about 40 minutes and Ajax was great the entire time. He was of course great because we were in a store filled with tractors and lawn mowers. Ajax tried out every single tractor multiple times and kept pointing out his favorite ones. He even got a kick out of the snow blowers.
We then headed out to Brooklyn for the night. Ajax was up at about 6:30 and my dad was nice enough to let me sleep in. We did breakfast of french toast and then headed outside by 9 am! Ajax pulled out his power wheel and zipped all around the farm, up and down the second drive and behind the big red barn. He also decided to help grandpa by filling in a groundhog hole and made multiple trips with his power wheel filled with dirt. We also played in the sand pit behind the barn with all of Ajax’s metal trucks and made great roads and highways. The animals followed Ajax everywhere he went, it was hilarious, the dogs, the cats, they followed him everywhere.
We then helped my dad take down a large tree near his pole barn. By help I mean Ajax and I manned the tractor and simply put tension on the large limbs so that they fell the way my dad wanted. Ajax got a kick out of that. He also had fun jumping and climbing through the fallen tree and even got into a tug of war with one of the dogs over a large branch.
After our hard work my dad treated us to lunch at McDonalds where Ajax played quite well on the playscape. As he was pretty overtired at that point, he didn’t leave terribly well, but in the car he finally calmed down when he asked to listen to the Beach Boys. I asked Ajax if he really wanted to listen to the Beach Boys and he said yes. My dad happened to have his iPod with several Beach Boy albums. When I put them on he hummed along with it till he fell asleep. I couldn’t believe it.
Last night I was driving home, talking to my friend Erica, when all of a sudden I noticed a very loud thumping noise. I thought it was the car next to me till I realized I wasn’t moving away from the noise and that the noise was actually getting louder. I made my way to the shoulder of the expressway and told Erica I had to let her go, lol. I had a flat tire. Of course it was a brand new tire that we paid $100 less than a month ago, right. I immediately called Dave and he said he was on his way. To get Ajax motivated Dave explained to him that – momma’s car is stuck in the mud and we need to go help her! Dave said that Ajax jumped off the couch and said, let’s go!
I sat in Dave’s car with Ajax while Dave put the spare on my car. Not really how we planned on spending our evening as we didn’t get home till after 7:30 pm. The whole time Dave was changing my tire Ajax chatted away. Explaining how he and daddy were rescuing me, how my car was clearly stuck in the mud, and by the way- when were the tractors coming to pull the car out? Ajax was very well behaved throughout the ordeal.
I awoke to the sing-songy voice of Ajax calling- I’m all done sleeping mom! My first thought was- goodness, he sounds so happy. I walked downstairs and found Ajax sitting up in bed saying how he was done sleeping and that he was done with his nap. Try to explain, however, to an overtired and stubborn two-year old that it’s midnight and no one is up and about at midnight and to go back to sleep. Ajax was up till 3 am. I was so tired and frustrated that I finally laid on the couch with him. He won.
It’s kind of funny how first-time parent’s have these grand ideas and plans of how they will raise their children. They will do this, they won’t do that… then the baby comes and throws all your well-laid plans out the window, lol. At 3 am, I didn’t really care about any of that, I just needed to sleep. I was finally able to transfer Ajax into his bed wrapped in blanket where he slept till 7:45 am.
On Saturday Dave and I were beyond tired (more like a little nuts), we were so tired that I called my mom. Yes, I did, I called my mom. My mom was nice enough to come visiting and help take care of Ajax. They played outside in the leaves and Ajax had so much fun playing with his grandma. My mom even made us a delicious dinner… a recipe I actually wrote down and will share sometime.
Ajax slept through the night Saturday, but now I fear that he’s getting a cold. Dave was sick last week with the flu and then had to go to Urgent Care on Saturday and is now on antibiotics for strep throat.
Today was pretty laid back. Ajax and I went grocery shopping, then we swung home to pick up Dave and went to the mall. Ajax played on the playscape for over an hour and then we bought Dave a down-filled vest. Dave and Ajax then worked outside, while I got some cooking done inside. Ajax was in bed by 7 pm and out like a light.
