Sleep training and the Hulk

To say that this was a stressful weekend (or more accurately month), may be a bit of an understatement, lol.  First Ajax was sick, than I was sick, than Dave was sick, and now Ajax is sick again, though he appears to now be on the rebound.  He’s still majorly congested, but that seems to be due to his teething more than anything else.  Because he’s been so under the weather lately we got a little off track with the sleeping, which means were starting sleep training all over again, which is stressful for everyone.

Ajax has also been into everything lately and wants to go everywhere and do everything.  He was actually playing in the bathroom and his hand slipped out and he hit his chin on the floor, sending his two teeth into his upper lip.  He then pulled himself up on his toy box and then promptly fell over hitting his forehead on it.  He then grabbed hold of his bedroom door and pulled it into his own face (so on and so forth). Excellent.  I actually have to take him back to the Doc. in 2 weeks to check his ear and the kid looks like he’s been through the ringer!

Oh and the hulk.  Well Ajax for some reason thinks that if he flexs every muscle in his body when he is in his car seat while making a loud grunting noise, that he will magically expel himself from the seat, thus setting him free to roam about the car.  Dave has labeled it- Ajax hulking.

Health

Today the sitter called, she was worried because Ajax was running a fever of 101.9!  We went ahead and called the Doctor for an appointment, luckily we were able to combine his 9 months well-being appointment which was scheduled for Monday.

First on stats – Ajax weighs 20 lb, 12 oz – which puts him in the 75th percentile for weight, and he was 30 inches long, putting him in the 95th percentile for length.  The Doctor said that Ajax was developing well, hitting all his milestones – crawling, pulling himself up, eating finger foods, and talking/babbling (I told the Doctor that Ajax can say “dog” and can correctly identify a dog… I don’t think he believed me, but Ajax chases my Aunt’s dog, Scarlet, all over the house saying, DOG DOG (or dyag dyag), so there you go).

Now onto the fever, Ajax has another ear infection!  The Doctor wasn’t sure if this was the same infection from Christmas/New Years or if this was a new one.   The Doctor said that Ajax has two things working against him- the shape of his ear canal and genetics (Dave was prone to them as a child).  He has an appointment again in two weeks to take a look at his ear again, so we shall see!

House Arrest

I’m a home-body, so staying around the house doesn’t bother me; however, yesterday when Ajax and I couldn‘t leave because of his pink eye/ear infection I started to go a little stir crazy.  I cleaned the house, did the laundry, and we also worked on crawling (still non to report, but a lot of rolling/scooting going on).  My friend Mari came to visit which was great and after Ajax went to bed I went to the grocery store and Target just to get out of the house.

This ear infection is worse than last time and our nights have been pretty rough.  For the last three nights he has been up multiple times, needless to say Dave and I are very tired.

Tomorrow we head up north to visit Dave’s family and we won’t be home till Sunday.

For some reason Ajax declared war on his wood giraffe and airplane blanket. It was pretty funny.
Still waging war.
Looking concerned, yet triumphant.
... and now onto other things.

Pink eye and an ear infection

Yesterday my dad babysat Ajax, as Dave and I had to work, and took him to see his Doctor (Thank you DAD!).  Ajax does in fact have pink eye and on top of that an ear infection in his right ear.  Of course.   The Doc. put him on a stronger antibiotic and ordered Motrin every 6 hours.  Poor little guy.  They also weighed Ajax and he is just over 20 lbs.  For some reason I thought he’d weigh more…

Ajax loves "sips", but hasn't really figured it out yet.

First Tooth!!

Ajax has his first little tooth coming in.  It’s his lower left central!  You can just barely see it and each time I tried to pull his lower lip down to see it better he’d stick his tongue out and that would obstruct any view of the emerging tooth.   How exciting!  My little guy is growing up.

Ajax also attended his baby class today.  My aunt said he had a great time, but that everytime his little friend (the 9 mos old) would crawl to a new section of the playmat, Ajax would throw a temper tantrum because he couldn’t crawl after him.   Ajax would remedy this issue by lunging foward, ending up in a superman pose, sprawled out face first on the floor, yelling after his friend.   He may be crawling sooner than we realize.

Ear infection!

Today I took Ajax to his 6 month appointment.  He did very well throughout the exam and even was a trooper through his shots.  The doctor did say that he had an ear infection in his right ear though.  I was a little upset as I had taken Ajax into the office a week ago suspecting one.  The doctor assured me that when Ajax was in last week, there was no infection.   The doc gave us a prescription for the nino and said it should clear up in a few days.  Also, the doctor said that at 8 months we could start pureeing meat for Ajax (chicken, unseasoned beef, etc).  This sounds truly horrible to me, so my kid may be a vegetarian until he has teeth.   This week Ajax weighed 18 lb. 15 oz (down from the 19 lb 2 oz from last week… odd?), putting him in the 75th percentile for weight, and he was 28 in long, putting him in the 95th percentile for height.

Colds and Doctors

Yesterday I took the day off to be home with Ajax (and Max).  Ajax had his first cold, though we were worried it was an ear infection.  I bundled him up and took him to the doctor’s office and the Doc said it was only a mild cold (temp at 99), some spitting up.  Ajax weighs 19.2 lbs.  When we were in the waiting room Ajax was smiling and laughing at the other three kids in the area, those kids however were sick and looked quite miserable.   I kept thinking, Ajax could you look a little sicker here?  I’d like to report that Ajax is feeling much better today.
