Had a moment to spare and thought I’d post some cute pictures of Ajax. We’ve had a very quiet Sunday. It’s been rainy and cool outside so our time was spent inside, though we did make a short trip out to Novi. Ajax still loves the car, he was fussy at first but as soon as Dave started driving he was out like a light. On a sleep note, Ajax slept for four solid hours last night, till 1 am. Dave and I on the other hand kept waking up and checking him.
Bath Time
Today Ajax had his first bath and I must say it was quite the ordeal. He hates having his diaper changed or getting dressed, so stripping him down and putting him in the tub was a lot for him to process. Luckily my mother-in-law was here to help so the whole thing didn’t last too long for the little guy. However, I do not think bath time will be his favorite thing.
Week Two
Well Baby Ajax is two weeks old today and he has had an exciting week. He has been out visiting family and friends, he went shopping, he went for his first walk, and tonight Dave and I plan on giving him his first bath. He is also starting to stay awake longer during the day and is beginning to make little noises when he’s awake, which is just so cute. His personality is also coming out. For example there are times after his feedings where he does not want to be held, but instead wants to be put down and just look around the room. This took me some time to figure out as I just want to scoop him up and snuggle him all the time. He also gets this look on his face sometimes that says- duh mom, duh dad. Dave and I can already picture this face on a moody teen.
Getting bigger
Well we’re into week 2 and I must say that things are going a little smoother. Dave and I still aren’t sleeping, but the constant panic level of having an infant in the home is slowly starting to go down. Yesterday Ajax and I had our first lunch date with some of my aunts and cousins. I was nervous the whole time, but Ajax just slept through the entire thing.
Ajax is also living up to his name as he is a very tough little guy and getting bigger each day. Some of his newborn outfits really don’t fit him anymore, as they are too short for his long legs, He also has an incredibly strong neck and can hold his head up and look up at you, which I’ve been told he should not be able to do yet. He actually flung himself out of Dave’s arms in a push up type motion, which obviously scared the heck out of all involved.
Easter Sunday
Today Ajax is celebrating his first Easter, though he has no concept of time/dates/etc. We’re more excited about it than he is. We are all headed to my aunt Liz’s house for dinner, but I thought if I didn’t post some pictures now while Ajax is sleeping there was no way I’d have the energy to do it tonight. Ajax is looking less yellow everyday and is getting more and more energy, which means more awake time. Last night he didn’t settle down till around 2 am, then was out for 2 to 3 hours, and then he decided 8 am was when the house should get up. Although it’s only been a week, I’m starting to forget what it was like to really sleep. lol.
You know it’s quite amazing. Dave and I are intelligent, educated people, and yet our conversations now revolve, almost exclusively, around the frequency of burbs, the color of poo, should we bother putting more than a onesie on him, and the age old debate- do we let him sleep or should we wake him up to feed? We plan his feeding schedule as if we were preparing a heist.
On another note, Dave is much faster at changing diapers and getting Ajax dressed. I on the other hand am slow and have already been peed and pooed on by my son due to this handicap. Dave finds this very humorous.
One Week Old
Ajax is one week old today! To think that last week I was still pregnant, thinking I would be so forever, and now we have this little person in our home running our lives. So far I think everything is going as well as can be expected. Dave and I aren’t sleeping much, the dog still seems a little concerned over the crying baby in the house, and there are times where we honestly can’t believe we have a child and have no idea what we’re doing.
We went to Target yesterday (as I had to get out of the house), Ajax slept the whole time, but I was on pins and needles thinking – oh dear what if wakes up and starts screaming? He still loves his car seat and car rides, and his swing. He’s starting to stay awake a little longer each day (whereas the first few days he just slept all the time), now he’ll stay awake after meals and whatnot and look around. Because he’s staying awake longer I realize it’s 4 pm and have no idea where my day went.
Getting Settled
Hello! Well the Indish home is slowly adjusting to its newest little member. Max seems quite concerned every time the baby cries and tries to herd Dave and I toward him. Dave and I are still adjusting to the fact that we now have a child; we’re still surprised and terrified. There’s not much sleep for Dave and I, but luckily we’ve had the help of family (thanks mom for staying over). We’ve had a few outings thus far- on Monday we had to go to the Lab so that they could test Ajax for jaundice. On Tuesday we had our first visit to the doctor. The Doc said everything was fine, he was very healthy, but sent us to the lab to be tested again for jaundice. The Doc later called and said, yep he may be a little yellow, but did not in fact have jaundice and wasn’t concerned about it. Dave goes back to work on Monday and I must admit I’m a bit intimidated about being alone with the little guy as Dave and I make a pretty good baby team.
Baby has arrived
Ajax Gabriel simply needed a deadline. We never made it to the hospital on Sunday because my water broke of its own accord at midnight on Thursday, April 2. We got to the hospital at 7 am on Friday and he was born at 6:28 pm on April 3rd. He was 22 inches long and weighed 7 lbs 15 oz. We all came home today and so far are doing well. I just wanted to post some pictures to show everyone our beautiful baby boy and let everyone know that everyone is healthy and happy.
D +1
Well, we are now at D day, plus one. No activity to speak of, but as people constantly remind me- You Can Go At Any Time! I would like to say that I have calmed down a bit about this whole maternity leave thing (though I’m constantly thinking- I could be at work right now!) and have started to relax and enjoy the bit of quiet. I’ve been trying to sleep as much as possible, getting last minute running around done, cleaning, and have been visiting with family.
I had a doctor’s appointment today and according to the Doc we’re still at 1-2cm, so no progress there. We also haven’t been having anymore real contractions or signs of impending labor. The Doc therefore made the call that this Sunday I’m to report to Providence Hospital in Southfield at 6:30 pm to be induced. The Doc was a little concerned that the baby keeps getting bigger and we’re showing no signs of progressing. The Doc also said that the baby was in excellent shape, very healthy and just a little to comfortable in there. So Mr. Dave and I will be heading to the hospital on Sunday, which is a little scary as I’ve never been in a hospital before, but also very exciting as I’m one step closer to meeting my son. We shall keep everyone posted in case we go before Sunday!
Still No Bambino and D day is almost here
I am reaching the point in my pregnancy where I feel like this kid will never come out. I will in fact be pregnant forever. Yes, I know this is not rational or even physically possible, but I do not care. I have been eating tons of pineapple and spicy Thai food, to no effect. Mr. Dave, Max, and I have also been going on epic walks every evening (the dog is thrilled about this one), still to no effect. I understand that my due date is not till April 1, so maybe I need to just relax, but I am not used to being home with nothing to do.
Here are some pictures of Mr. Dave and I, pre-baby, so that when we do have this child and start to look a little crazy and sleep deprived, people can look back and say, ah yes they were a lovely couple.
